NPA announces new activities, Chevy Bolt to be at 2018 State Fair

August 17, 2018

Grand Island, Neb. - Soon, the smell of deep fried food will be filling the air in Grand Island, as the Nebraska State Fair makes its return for 2018. This also means the return of the Nebraska Power Association’s (NPA) public power booth just outside of the Heartland Event Center.

The all-electric Chevy Bolt will be on display for fair-goers to check out, in addition to the Little Lineworkers Rodeo, Public Power 360 Virtual Reality demo, STEM Robotics Challenge and much more.

“More than 25 public power utilities and agencies come together to educate fair attendees on electrical safety, energy efficiency, and the benefits of getting electricity from locally powered utilities,” says Nebraska Public Power District’s Community Outreach Supervisor Scott Margheim.

NPA has also teamed up with Nebraska811 and the Edgerton Explorit Center to bring the Nebraska811 dig pit, as well as the Explorit On the Move Team to this year’s fair.

“We will have a variety of hands-on activities that are engaging and offer memorable ways for fair attendees to discover how Nebraska’s electric utilities are truly “Powering the Good Life” here in the state,” notes Margheim.

If you prefer to enjoy your time watching a show, instead of getting hands-on, then visitors can also check out the daily live line electric safety trailer demonstration running every day (see schedule below), or the Lineworkers Rodeo on Saturday, Aug. 25th. Both events will have participation from a wide variety of public power districts, from across the state.

Other activities taking place at the NPA booth, include designing a light switch, a solar panel display, the Pedal Power Energy activity, Public Power Plinko Trivia Game, Electrical Safety Displays and Public Power Information.
