Powering Nebraska's Tomorrow

NPPD builds the future of energy and engineering careers

Nebraska’s economy is rapidly growing, bringing new businesses, ventures and experiences with it. Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) is supporting the effort with exciting energy expansion projects within its emPOWERING Nebraska’s Tomorrow program. This strategic program is not only about meeting the state's increasing energy demand, but also about bringing real opportunities for the communities we power: more jobs, stronger local economies, and greater investment in rural Nebraska.

Meeting the surge in energy demand

Over the next five to ten years, Nebraska anticipates unprecedented load growth, driven by an influx of new businesses, especially in agriculture and manufacturing-related industries, as well as data centers. These sectors are attracted to Nebraska due to the affordable and reliable electricity offered by public power, making our industry an integral factor in economic development.

To address this surge, NPPD is proactively expanding its generation capacity. The emPOWERING Nebraska’s Tomorrow program is central to this effort.

Expanding our already diverse generation mix will further increase our ability to be flexible and more resilient. With an effective combination of traditional and renewable energy sources, including nuclear power, NPPD aims to provide reliable and affordable energy for years to come.

Princeton Road Station: A hub for innovation and employment

A cornerstone of this initiative is the construction of Princeton Road Station (PRS), located north of NPPD’s Sheldon Station near Hallam, Nebraska. PRS is designed to add approximately 694 megawatts to NPPD’s energy mix through the use of combustion turbines and reciprocating internal combustion engines. This is enough new generation estimated to serve 318,000 residential homes at full capacity!

This facility will increase NPPD’s energy capacity while creating employment opportunities. Operation of PRS will require a skilled workforce, particularly engineers, to oversee the construction, operation and maintenance of the facility. These teammates will be at the forefront of integrating advanced technologies, ensuring operational efficiency and maintaining the reliability of the power grid. This is a chance to be part of a team that values innovation, sustainability and community service.

Job opportunities abound

In turn, expansion of NPPD's grid-related infrastructure presents a significant demand for professionals across various disciplines, who will find opportunities to engage in meaningful work that directly impacts Nebraska's energy landscape and the people who live here.

Help us build Nebraska's energy future

We are excited about this once in a lifetime opportunity to invest in and emPOWER Nebraska's tomorrow by investing in new generation facilities like PRS.

For engineers and other professionals seeking to make a tangible difference, this is an opportunity to be part of a transformative period in Nebraska's history.
