Watch for outlets gone bad

Outlets don’t last forever. If yours are old or damaged, they could pose a safety risk. Here are five signs it’s time for a replacement:

  1. Loose or wobbly outlets – Worn-out internal connections can cause plugs to fall out or to fit loosely.
  2. Cracked or discolored plates – Damage or discoloration can signal overheating or internal issues.
  3. Flickering lights – Lights that flicker when plugged in may point to faulty wiring.
  4. Two-pronged outlets – Upgrade to grounded, three-pronged outlets for better protection.
  5. Standard outlets in damp areas – Replace standard outlets in kitchens, bathrooms or outdoors with GFCI outlets to prevent shock.

Bonus Tip: Upgrade to smart outlets to save energy and control devices remotely using your phone or voice assistant and by connecting to an accompanying app.
