Preparing for your future

You will continue to hear about emPOWERING Nebraska’s Tomorrow in the coming months and years as NPPD supports new load prospects, expansion of current businesses and welcomes new companies looking to make Nebraska their home.

I encourage you to visit www.nppd.com and select “emPOWERING Nebraska’s Tomorrow” to learn about this journey and our quest for new and developing energy infrastructure. NPPD aims to improve the state’s quality of life while providing reliable and affordable electricity, and to do so, we look at load growth projects across the state and prepare for what lies ahead. Our approach emphasizes balance. We’re not building generation we don’t yet need, and we’re not putting stress on the grid where it doesn’t belong. We’re investing in a resilient system that serves small homes, large industrial facilities, and agricultural endeavors.

While growth happens, so does the everyday increase in costs in almost every avenue of life, and NPPD is not exempt from cost pressures. To combat this, we routinely perform cost-of-service studies considering many variables such as distribution costs, load factors and others. Based on the most recent study, NPPD plans for an overall 3% rate increase for 2026. The good news is that NPPD’s retail rates remain significantly below the average electric rates for other utilities in Nebraska and continue to fall well below the average electric rates for the nation.

There are undoubtedly many other ways we continue to focus on the communities we serve. Over the last several months, you likely saw NPPD teammates participating in parades and other community events sharing the public power message. Watch for our presence in Halloween activities in these same communities this October. It’s all part of how we remain committed to cultivating strong relationships with you.

It is a pleasure for our team to work and live in our communities, to interact with community members, and to support them throughout the year. Remember to enjoy the changing seasons and always put safety first
