A Message from Marie Kapels

Hello! I’m Marie Kapels, NPPD’s general manager of retail services. I’m excited to work with our residential customers across Nebraska. I’ve spent many years working with people just like you, and my goal is to make sure you feel confident and informed about your energy service. Even though I’m new to this role, I’m committed to supporting your household with clear communication and reliable service.

One of my top priorities is to inform you that 2027 will bring some rate changes. Right now, NPPD is planning for an 8.6 percent rate increase beginning January 2027. This rate change is still preliminary, and our board of directors will review and make a final vote at their meeting in November. I know this kind of news isn’t easy, especially when budgets are tight.

Even with this proposed increase, Nebraska’s electric rates are still much lower than the national average. The rate change will help us keep the electric system strong, improve our infrastructure, and meet growing energy needs across the state. As we get closer to the board of directors’ decision, my team and I will make sure you have clear, timely information about what this could mean for you and your family.

Thank you for taking the time to read this update. NPPD remains focused on providing fair rates, reliable energy, and strong relationships with the customers we serve. I’m grateful for the chance to work with you and look forward to supporting you in the months and years ahead.
