Important Information Regarding NPPD’s Late Payment Fee Structure

Nebraska Public Power District continually looks for ways to control costs and improve efficiencies so we are able to continue serving each and every customer with a high degree of reliability while keeping rates steady.

One area recently explored was the structure of our late payment fees. For more than 15 years, customers who did not pay the balance of their monthly bill by the due date were subject to a late payment fee of $15.00. After reviewing this matter more closely and conducting benchmarking comparisons against other Nebraska utilities, NPPD has elected to make a change.

Beginning March 1, 2016, the late payment fee will be $15.00 or 3% of current monthly charges, whichever is greater. This equates to a threshold of $500.00 where bills with current month’s charges of $500.00 and less will be subject to a $15.00 late fee, while bills greater than $500.00 will be subject to a late fee of 3% of the charges. This means the vast majority of customers will not be affected by the change.
