York General Health Care Services saves energy, money: receives EnergyWiseSM incentive payment

October 4, 2012

York, Neb. – Energy efficiency pays, in more ways than one. On Tuesday morning, Oct. 2, Nebraska Public Power District General Manager of Retail Tim Arlt and York Account Manager Craig Vincent presented an EnergyWiseSM incentive check of $11,437 to York General Health Care Services Board President Chuck Harris. Also participating in the check presentation was YGHCS CEO Chuck Schulz.

Together with Nebraska Public Power District, YGHCS recently completed an energy efficiency audit and implemented an EnergyWise program to attain energy savings at the York General Medical Office Building.

The program has been a resounding success.

NPPD uses the term EnergyWise to identify a series of energy efficiency incentive programs NPPD offers to customers. The incentive check is a payment for the successful completion of an EnergyWise HVAC System Optimization project at the office building. Measures taken to increase energy efficiency at the building included improved control of the building’s electric boilers, chiller, pumps, air handlers, and variable air volume system.

Through the first six months of the project, energy savings for the 57,000 square foot office building have exceeded expectations, and more than 400,000 kilowatt hours of electric energy have been saved. That’s a savings on the health care organization’s electric bill of about $25,000 over a six-month period

Assisting customers to find ways to use energy wisely is a key component of NPPD’s business strategy. “In addition to helping customers save money and being the right thing to do, energy efficiency and conservation helps NPPD,” said NPPD Energy Efficiency Supervisor Steve Zach of Columbus. “Energy efficiency helps us control costs by delaying construction of more power generation facilities, which can be prohibitively expensive,” Zach explained.

“York General Health Care Services is a large electric user and an important NPPD customer,” Vincent pointed out. “NPPD is pleased they partnered with us on this energy efficiency initiative, and we’re very excited at the success they’ve achieved in reducing energy usage. We hope this success will motivate other customers to follow the same path.”
