NPPD Consideration of New Public Utility Regulatory Policies Act (PURPA) Standards

The Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) has prepared management reports on three proposed retail service standards in the federal Public Utility Regulatory Policies Act (PURPA). NPPD is required by PURPA to consider and determine whether to adopt the standards. The retail service standards being considered are:

  • Net Metering – Offer net metering service whereby electric energy generated by a customer from an eligible on-site generating facility may be used to offset electric energy provided by the utility to the customer.
  • Fuel Sources – Develop a plan to minimize reliance on a single fuel source and utilize a diverse range of fuels and technologies.
  • Fossil Fuel Generation Efficiency – Develop a ten year plan to increase the efficiency of fossil fuel generation.

NPPD’s Board of Directors will hold a public hearing on the three standards on Friday, June 13, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. in conjunction with its June Board meeting at the NPPD General Office, 1414 15th Street, Columbus, NE.
