Ainsworth Wind Energy Facility

The Nebraska Power Review Board and NPPD’s Board of Directors approved the project in August 2004, and installation of the facility’s 36 wind turbines was complete on Aug. 1, 2005. Commercial operation of the facility began Sept. 15, 2005. Built by the Nebraska Public Power District, the facility will also be used by four other public power entities: the Omaha Public Power District, Municipal Energy Agency of Nebraska, Jacksonville Electric Authority of Jacksonville, Fla., and Grand Island Utilities. Each turbine can generate 1.65 megawatts of power and the entire facility can generate enough power to supply approximately 19,000 homes, annually. For more information, view the Ainsworth Wind Generation website.

Springview Wind Generation

Two wind turbines at Springview, Neb., have been converting the power of wind into electricity since the fall of 1998. The wind-powered generators produced an average of 4,617 megawatt-hours of electricity annually, during their first three full years of service. This is enough power to supply the needs of approximately 534 average homes. For more information, view the Springview Wind Generation website.
