Employee Commitment

Adopt-A-HighwayWhile Nebraska Public Power District has committed to an Environmental Policy along with Corporate and Individual Environmental Leadership Principles, these are more than just word on paper.  Active involvement exemplifies the fact that NPPD’s employees are committed to making sure we do our part as a company and as individuals to “enhance the quality of life for Nebraskans.”  NPPD encourages and fully supports such employee involvement.

At work, NPPD employees are involved with organizations such as the Nebraska Industrial Council for the Environment (NICE) which is comprised of various industrial businesses, as well as environmental consultants and firms from throughout Nebraska that collectively work to monitor, comment, help direct, and educate on environmental issues facing Nebraska industries.  NPPD financially supports such organizations as WasteCap of Nebraska and Keep Nebraska Beautiful.  These organizations take a lead role in educating Nebraskans about pollution prevention, development and establishment of recycling programs in Nebraska counties and communities, and even development of state-wide programs such as the Nebraska Used Oil Collection Program, of which NPPD was a member of the Leadership Management Team.  Since its initial inception in 1999, this program has expanded to include over 60 locations across Nebraska where citizens can take their used oil for proper disposal.

NPPD has had two employees appointed by the Governor to serve as voting members of the Nebraska Environmental Quality Council (EQC).  The  EQC is made up of representative from various sectors of the Nebraska population and is essentially chartered with establishing and approving environmental rules and regulations within Nebraska.  Currently NPPD’s Environmental Manager serves on the EQC as the representative for Nebraska industry.

NPPD employees support work of the Nebraska Environmental Trust Fund by serving as technical reviewers of various grant applications for environmental projects that may be funded by the Environmental Trust Fund.

At the individual level, and away from work, NPPD employees across the state are also involved in many other organizations such as Nebraska Adopt-A-Highway Program, Ducks Unlimited, National Wild Turkey Federation, Pheasants Forever, Natural Resources Districts, Audubon Society, Sierra Club and other organizations committed to development and preservation of wildlife, habitat, and the environment.
