PUBLIC INVOLVEMENT PROCESS

Welcome to
Grid Essential!

Play Video >

When developing transmission line routes, NPPD typically follows a comprehensive public involvement process within the involved area/communities. The importance of gathering comments from the public on any proposed route is a vital component in the route siting/decision-making process. The public will have numerous opportunities to provide input and information to the project team for consideration.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONSIDERATIONS

Piping PloverNPPD is aware that there could be sensitive environmental issues and areas associated with projects involving the construction of new transmission lines. It is important that any such issues or areas be identified early in the project planning. That is why NPPD's public involvement process includes a critical environmental component. NPPD's environmental staff and their representatives will meet and work closely with appropriate regulatory agencies and interest groups, and we will gather environment-related information during public meetings. Such information may include, but is not limited to, wetlands; threatened, endangered or sensitive species; cultural resources; and native prairies. This environmental information will be part of the route selection criteria.
