Energy Efficiency

Our daily lives revolve around the availability of low-cost, dependable electricity. Homes, businesses, farms and industry count on it being there whenever they want to use it. Energy Efficiency, defined, is really a concept of output over input. The logic being, if we reduce the amount of energy in, while still getting the original desired result, then we have improved the Energy Efficiency.

NPPD's Technical Solutions Department wants to help you succeed in the pursuit of Energy Efficiency. You can begin energy-proofing your home immediately with easily-activated Energy Efficiency tips by viewing our Residential or Energy Education sections.

Start saving energy today by implementing some energy efficiency tips:

  • Use energy-efficient compact fluorescent bulbs in your home and garage.
  • Turn off lights when leaving a room.
  • Install a programmable thermostat that lets you maintain a safe but efficient temperature in your home during times when no one is home or through the night while you sleep.
  • Plant trees around your home to reduce energy for heating and cooling.
  • Clean or replace air filters.
  • Review your home, doors, and windows and seal any cracks and openings that can let outside air infiltrate your home.
  • Find out how to set your computer's 'sleep mode' and it will automatically reduce its energy consumption when you are not using it.
