Generation Connection Application
On May 13, 2009, Legislative Bill 436 (LB 436) was signed into Nebraska Law providing for net metering for customer-generators interconnecting into the electric distribution system with distributed generation at a rated capacity of twenty-five (25) kilowatts (kW) or less.
Net metering is a system of metering energy usage whereas; a customer-generator is credited for the amount of energy generated by its own qualified distributed generation facility during each billing period. The credits are calculated at the applicable rate for each kilowatt-hour (kWh).
Energy sources that may be used for the customer-generator’s qualified facility are wind, solar, biomass, methane, hydropower, or geothermal resources.
Pursuant to Nebraska Revised Statute 70-2004 (2) – A customer-generator is responsible for notifying the local distribution utility of its intent to install a qualified facility at least sixty days prior to its installation and is responsible for all costs associated with the qualified facility.
