Ken Schmieding began his term of office on the NPPD Board of Directors in January, 2003. A fourth generation Nebraskan, Schmieding is a self-employed professional photographer. He is past president of the Seward Chamber of Commerce and currently serves on the Recreation Board in Seward, is a member of the Rotary Club and also a member of St. John Lutheran Church.
