Nuclear Instructor (Training)

This position is responsible for maintaining high quality training in the Operations training area, as well as, improving overall Operator knowledge. The expectation for increasing the base knowledge in the Non-Licensed Operator initial and continuing classes will require increased resources through increased contact time in the classroom and oral boards. In the Licensed Operator initial and requalification area the expectations for diverse and increased testing and oral boards will require more resources. This position is required to maintain the current level of training in the Operations area.

The Instructor assigned in this position is accountable to the Operations Training Programs. This position is responsible for developing, scheduling, and presenting quality training to Operations staff at Cooper Nuclear Station. This position is also responsible to maintain training programs to ensure the program is consistent with NRC, INPO, ANI, and NPPD/CNS requirements.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Prepare for and present instruction as needed to support the Operations Training Programs at Cooper Nuclear Station.
  • Evaluate trainee performance.
  • Ensure simulator meets all NPPD, INPO, and NRC requirements; support maintenance of simulator certification.
  • Arrange for and coordinate instruction provided by vendors for new, existing, or modified equipment.
  • Develop, maintain, and modify instructional material.
  • Document training, communicate, and provide information to satisfy NRC, INPO, ANI, and NPPD/CNS requirements.
  • Provide technical direction to other nuclear instructors relative to accredited training program subject matter. Participate in training required to maintain knowledge and skills as an instructor.
  • Incumbent is accountable for miscellaneous other responsibilities as assigned or required.

Decision Making Authority:

  • Determine appropriate resources and requirements to provide instruction to CNS staff.
  • Determine training program content and practices required to ensure CNS staff are qualified to perform tasks necessary to maintain CNS systems, structures, and components.

Qualifications:

  • Education and Training - Instructors assigned to Operations Training Group require SRO license or SRO certification (not plant certification) with a bachelors degree and 8 years of relevant experience (OR) an associates degree and 10 years relevant experience (OR) or a high school diploma and 12 years relevant experience.
  • Licenses and/or Certifications Required - SRO license or SRO certification for training (not plant certification) and/or bachelors degree in science or engineering.
  • Prior Related Experience - Relevant experience as per Item "A" above.
  • Competencies which should be demonstrated:

    • Must have detailed knowledge of, or technical subject matter expertise in the areas of, accredited training programs.
    • Collaborates effectively with other instructors to accomplish training requirements for CNS staff.

Salary Range: $71,000 to $98,000
