Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) has an immediate opening for an Environmental Engineer I, II, or III located in Columbus, Nebraska.
The incumbent is responsible for providing environmental engineering expertise and oversight as necessary to maintain compliance with various state and federal environmental regulations, and to complete major environmental projects.
Essential Functions of Position:
- Apply engineering and environmental expertise to improve processes and reduce environmental risks and liabilities.
- Investigate impact of proposed and promulgated federal and state environmental regulations on District operations. Develop and recommend guidelines needed to ensure regulatory compliance. Track permits, plans, fees, reports, etc. to ensure timely response and ensure compliance.
- Develop plans, specifications, procedures and/or guidelines for complex environmental engineering projects and recommend solutions to various problems. Primary impact areas are solid and hazardous waste management, clean water act compliance and evaluations, wastewater and water engineering projects, clean air act compliance and evaluations, pollution control project expertise, groundwater assessment and remediation, property assessments, state and federal permitting, spill response, facility BMP and SPCC management, and storm water management.
- Formulate proposals, analyze quotations, and assist in the selection of consultants for major environmental projects. Track and monitor environmental components (cost and work) for projects.
- Perform field surveys and evaluate engineering designs to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Identify actual or potential environmental engineering problems, investigate, analyze and develop corrective actions to be taken, draft reports, and act as environmental project consultant/specialist.
- Review environmental audits, reports, and files to assess compliance status and history.
- Lead project teams and be a contributing member on various project teams.
Education and Training:
Bachelor's degree in civil, mechanical, chemical, or environmental engineering from an ABET accredited university.
Licenses and/or Certifications Required:
PE is preferred
Prior Related Experience:
- Level I - Entry level position.
- Level II - Proven technical competence within the environmental engineering discipline and performance at corresponding levels outlined in NPPD's engineering technical career path.
- Level III - Fully competent within the environmental engineering discipline and fully functional within operational applications. Performs at corresponding levels outlined in NPPD's engineering technical career path.

Salary Information:
Engineer I - $4,213 to $5,618/month
Engineer II - $4,723 to $6,298/month
Engineer III - $5,343 to $7,302/month
