Columbus, Neb. – At its regularly scheduled May meeting, NPPD’s Board of Directors awarded an approximate $1.5 million construction contract with Steele Roofing and Construction, Inc., of North Platte, Nebraska to complete renovations on what will be NPPD’s new Ogallala Operations Center.
The Ogallala Operations Center will combine three existing NPPD facilities in Ogallala — a retail customer service/distribution center, a substation garage/shop building and a telecommunications/substation technician building.
“Consolidating our operations will provide efficiencies and improve customer service,” explained NPPD Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Tom Kent.
The new facility will be located in the former Bomgaars retail store at 300 South Clarice Road. “By renovating an existing facility, the District is maximizing our customer value and getting a prominent location when compared to a greenfield facility,” said Kent.
The new location provides high visibility for NPPD and its customers and continues NPPD’s presence in Ogallala and the surrounding communities it serves.
“The partnership between the city of Ogallala and NPPD has been strong for more than 65 years and in October the City Council voted to extend the current electrical operations agreement for another 25 years,” said NPPD Economic Development Consultant Brian Vasa. “With this long term commitment in mind and the need to consolidate our three work groups under one roof, we purchased the vacant building and will begin remodeling this month.”
Renovations are expected to be complete in early 2018.
